Preset

Preset is a fully managed cloud analytics platform built on Apache Superset, the widely adopted open source business intelligence and data visualization tool. By hosting and managing Superset as a service, Preset enables data teams to access all the capabilities of Apache Superset without the operational burden of deploying, scaling, and maintaining the infrastructure required to run it.

The Preset platform provides the complete Apache Superset experience in a managed environment with enterprise-grade reliability, security, and support. Teams get access to the full chart library, dataset management, SQL Lab, dashboard builder, and all other Superset features immediately after creating a workspace, with no installation or configuration required.

Superset's chart library, accessible through Preset, covers a comprehensive range of visualization types. Time series charts, bar charts, area charts, pie charts, scatter plots, histogram, heatmaps, box plots, treemaps, chord diagrams, funnel charts, geographic maps (choropleth and point), calendar heatmaps, and pivot tables are all available. The ECharts integration adds additional high-quality interactive visualization options.

The SQL Lab in Preset provides a powerful browser-based SQL editor for writing and executing queries against any connected database. The editor supports multiple query tabs, schema browsing with table and column autocomplete, query history, result export, and the ability to save queries as Superset datasets for further exploration in the chart builder.

Dataset management in Preset provides a semantic layer between raw database tables and visualizations. Datasets can be physical database tables or virtual datasets defined by SQL queries. Calculated columns, custom metrics, and column descriptions can be added to datasets to create a business-friendly semantic layer that hides technical complexity from dashboard consumers.

Role-based access control in Preset enables fine-grained management of user permissions at the workspace, database, schema, dataset, and dashboard levels. Integration with SAML and OIDC identity providers enables SSO for enterprise customers, and the row-level security feature restricts data access to specific subsets based on user role or attributes.

Preset's workspace architecture supports multiple isolated workspaces within a single account, enabling different teams or projects to have separate analytics environments with their own databases, datasets, and dashboards. Cross-workspace sharing capabilities allow select dashboards and datasets to be shared between workspaces for organization-wide reporting.

Preset connects to all major data sources including Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, PostgreSQL, MySQL, ClickHouse, Presto, and many others. Database connection management, SSL configuration, and credential storage are all handled securely within the Preset platform.
