Scaleway is a French cloud computing company and a subsidiary of Iliad Group, one of France's major telecommunications operators. Founded as Online.net and rebranded as Scaleway, the company provides a modern cloud platform with a developer-friendly experience, competitive pricing, and a strong commitment to European data sovereignty, environmental sustainability, and open source technology.

The Scaleway compute catalog covers a broad range of server types. Standard cloud instances (Development and Production lines) provide VMs for web hosting, application servers, and development workloads. Both services integrate with Scaleway's load balancers, block storage, and container registry for a complete Kubernetes ecosystem.

Scaleway Serverless provides both Functions and Containers as serverless execution environments. Functions support Node.js, Python, Go, PHP, and Rust runtimes. Containers allow any Docker image to be deployed serverlessly. Both services scale automatically from zero to handle traffic spikes and scale back to zero when idle, eliminating infrastructure costs during quiet periods.

The Scaleway Object Storage service is S3-compatible and available across multiple European regions including Paris, Amsterdam, and Warsaw. It integrates with standard S3 tools and libraries, enabling straightforward migration of S3-based architectures to European infrastructure.

Scaleway Managed Databases provides hosted PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Redis instances with automatic backups, point-in-time restore, read replicas, and monitoring. The database instances are available in single-node and high-availability configurations across all Scaleway regions.

AI capabilities including Scaleway Generative APIs provide access to open source large language models including Llama, Mistral, and others through an OpenAI-compatible API, enabling developers to build AI-powered applications using familiar APIs on European infrastructure.
