What is mcp-server-kubernetes?
The MCP Kubernetes Server lets AI clients interact with a Kubernetes cluster using the active kubeconfig context. It supports listing and describing pods, deployments, services, and namespaces; reading pod logs; applying manifests; and running one-off commands in a pod.
Read the full overview
Works with any Kubernetes distribution: local clusters (minikube, kind, Docker Desktop Kubernetes), managed clusters (EKS, GKE, AKS), and on-premises clusters. Connects using the same kubeconfig file as kubectl.

Key capabilities
Resource inspection
List and describe pods, deployments, services, ingresses, configmaps, secrets (names only), and custom resources. Get detailed status including readiness, restart counts, and resource limits.
Log access and exec
Stream logs from any pod or container with configurable line limits. Execute one-off commands in a running container for debugging without opening a separate terminal session.
Where mcp-server-kubernetes fits
Compatible with Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cline, and any MCP-compatible client. Install via npm (npx) or pip (uvx) depending on the server implementation language.
Positioning and limitations
A DevOps and platform engineering staple. Keeps the AI client in the loop during deployments, incident investigations, and resource audits without requiring constant kubectl context switches in a separate terminal window.
MCP servers extend AI clients beyond their training data by giving them access to live systems: local files, databases, APIs, and services. Each server adds a set of typed tools the AI can call, inspect results from, and chain into multi-step workflows, all within a single conversation context.
