Key capabilities
Page and block operations
Create new pages under any parent, append Markdown-formatted content as blocks, update page properties, and archive pages. Supports all Notion block types including headings, paragraphs, code blocks, todos, and tables.
Database queries
Query database rows with filter, sort, and pagination. Create new database rows with typed property values including text, numbers, dates, selects, and relations.
Search
Full-text search across all pages and databases the integration token can access, with title and content matching.
Where MCP Notion Server fits
Compatible with Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cline, and any MCP-compatible client. Install via npm (npx) or pip (uvx) depending on the server implementation language.
Positioning and limitations
The standard MCP server for Notion-based knowledge workflows. Teams using Notion as their project wiki, meeting note repository, or CRM extension often add this server so Claude can read task context directly from Notion rather than requiring manual copy-paste.
MCP servers extend AI clients beyond their training data by giving them access to live systems: local files, databases, APIs, and services. Each server adds a set of typed tools the AI can call, inspect results from, and chain into multi-step workflows, all within a single conversation context.
