Coolify

Coolify is an open source, self-hostable platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that provides a Heroku-like developer experience on your own servers. It allows teams and individuals to deploy applications, databases, and services with ease, giving them the simplicity of managed cloud platforms like Heroku, Render, and Railway while retaining complete ownership of their infrastructure and data.

The core premise of Coolify is to eliminate the friction between local development and production deployment. Developers connect Coolify to a server (any VPS, bare metal, or cloud instance), configure their application's deployment settings once through a clean web interface, and then deploy subsequent versions with a single click or a Git push. This Git-based deployment workflow feels familiar to developers accustomed to platforms like Heroku and Vercel.

Application deployment in Coolify supports multiple source types. Git-based deployments connect to GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or any self-hosted Git server and automatically build and deploy the application when code is pushed to the configured branch. Docker image deployments pull pre-built images from Docker Hub or private registries. Static site deployments serve pre-built frontend assets through the built-in reverse proxy. Docker Compose deployments allow multi-container applications to be defined using standard compose files.

The build system in Coolify supports Nixpacks, which automatically detects the language and framework of a project and builds an optimized Docker image without requiring a Dockerfile. Coolify can also build from custom Dockerfiles for applications that require specific build configurations. Buildpacks support is also available for compatibility with existing Heroku-style applications.

Database management is a first-class feature in Coolify. Teams can deploy PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Redis, KeyDB, Dragonfly, CouchDB, ClickHouse, and other database systems through the Coolify interface, with automated backups to S3-compatible storage, scheduled backup policies, and one-click restoration. Databases can be exposed to applications through internal networking or made accessible externally with connection string generation.

Coolify includes built-in reverse proxy and SSL certificate management through Traefik or Caddy, automatically provisioning and renewing Let's Encrypt certificates for all deployed applications and services. Custom domain configuration, subdomain routing, and load balancing are all managed through the Coolify interface without manual server configuration.

The notification system in Coolify supports alerts for deployment success and failure, server health events, and other operational events through Discord, Slack, Telegram, email, and webhook channels. The built-in monitoring provides visibility into server resource utilization including CPU, memory, disk, and network.

Coolify supports multi-server deployments, allowing a single Coolify instance to manage applications across multiple servers. Teams can designate servers for specific projects, create staging and production environments on separate servers, and scale horizontally by adding new servers to the pool.

The open source self-hosted model of Coolify appeals strongly to teams that want to reduce cloud hosting costs, maintain data privacy, comply with data residency requirements, or simply have greater control over their deployment infrastructure than managed PaaS options allow.
